Agroforestry Coffee and Migratory Birds

Japan Bird Research Association

Migratory birds use agroforestry coffee farms as their winter habitat

Migratory birds that breed in Japan from spring to summer spend the winter in Southeast Asia. However, the decline of forests in this region threatens the migratory birds' wintering grounds. Agroforestry is a farming method in which crops are grown under trees. This method enables farmers to earn money while protecting the forests.

Forest Grown Coffee

The loss of forests due to agricultural development in the mountainous regions of Luzon Island in the Philippines has caused numerous problems. One potential solution is agroforestry coffee production.
