Bird monitoring at coffee farms
We set up 24 count points across 13 coffee plantations in Tadian, Mountain Province on the island of Luzon. Bird surveys were conducted in April and December 2024 and February 2025. A total of 111 species were recorded across these three surveys. The pictures below show the top 10 most frequently observed birds. Of these, the Arctic warbler is a migratory bird that was found to overwinter in high densities in the mountainous regions of Luzon Island.

In addition to the Arctic warbler mentioned above, the following migratory birds were found during the survey: All of the wild birds, except for the Brown Shrike subspecies (Lanius cristatus lucionensis), were photographed in Japan.

The breeding activity of birds in this area is at its peak in March and April. In December, birds are relatively silent, but become active again in February. A comparison of the number of bird species showed similar numbers in both agroforestry and broadleaf/pine forests during each period, while the alnus tree plantation area showed slightly fewer species.
